Kisumu Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga has dropped out of Kisumu gubernatorial race ahead of the upcoming nominations.
Ms Odinga confirmed that she was no longer interested in the seat despite earlier on maintaining her resolve to unseat incumbent Jack Ranguma.
The Deputy Governor did not also pay the Sh250,000 fee that was required from women aspirants vying for governorship under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Male aspirants were required to pay Sh500,000 while the women parted with Sh250,000.
“I am not vying for governor and that can be confirmed from ODM party because I did not pay the nomination fees,” the Deputy Governor stated.
The ODM leader Raila Odinga's younger sister had been on the front line advocating for more women to vie for political positions in the upcoming polls.
Ms Odinga was speaking after a survey by pollster Infotrak announced that Mr Ranguma was most likely to be re-elected.
