A Member of Parliament (MP) was involved in a grisly road accident that left one dead and two others injured.
Kisumu East MP Shakeel Shabbir was driving from a private function in Nyamache, Bobasi sub-county in Kisii, on Friday evening, when he collided with a boda-boda operator who was carrying two passengers.
According to police, the lawmaker rushed the three to hospital but unfortunately the rider Alex Trina, 27, died at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital on Saturday morning.
The pillion passengers Wylkster Maina and Lydia Maina - who are siblings - are receiving treatment in Nyamache Sub-County hospital.
The MP claimed that “the motorcyclist was driving very fast and before we could know he had hit my car.”
An eye-witness identified as Mr Joel Nyabuto said the rider was speeding causing him to veer off his lane crashing into the MPs car.
Kisii County police commandant Agnes Mudamba noted that investigations into the incident have begun.
“It is true that the car belongs to the MP. For now, there is no need of blaming each other until we are through with the investigations,” she said..
The police commandant urged motorists to be cautious particularly during the holiday season.
