Kisumu ODM Leaders Led by Governor Jack Ranguma Want County Elections Board Disbanded

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominations in Nyanza region are set for a rocky start after a section of aspirants alleged that the County Elections Board was made up of partisan individuals and demanded that the board be disbanded.

The leaders led by Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma, Member of Parliament (MPs) Shakeel Shabir Kisumu East and Onyango Koyoo Muhoroni stated that the board was only made of close associates of Kisumu Senator Anyang’ Nyong’o, Nyando MP Fred Outa and County ODM Chairman Ayiecho Olweny.

In their petition filed at the ODM secretariat, the aspirants alluded that the board led by Geoffrey Yogo should not be allowed to conduct the party nomination.

The aspirants also demanded that polling stations should not be merged as it would favour certain candidates.

“We reject in total and without any room for negotiation, the current Kisumu County Elections Board headed by Mr Yogo and comprising Kennedy Ojwang and Monica Ajwang, among others.

“We reject the very skewed merging of polling stations, which is an attempt to disenfranchise, manipulate and canonise sections of the voters within Kisumu town,” the petition read in part.

The aspirants in their petition further alluded that Mr Yogo was an interested party and hence cannot deliver credible results since he is Mr Outa’s personal lawyer.

The leaders further accused prof Nyong’o and Olweny of interfering with the nomination process.
