KNUT Official's School Drives Parents Mad After KCPE Results

Parents at a school in Laikipia North Constituency held demonstrations after 12 children got below 100 marks in KCPE, despite the head teacher being the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) chair in Laikipia County.

According to the parents, children of Naibor Primary School have been victims of negligence, because the headteacher Jackson Mugo, focused on KNUT affairs more than the pupils.

The angry guardians stormed the school which is located 25km from Nanyuki, and removed their children claiming they were not learning anything. The best student reportedly scored 250 marks in the national examination, placing blame on the head teacher who had only resistered 192 marks as the best mean score since he took office in 2002.

“A candidate who registered at the school from elsewhere scored 308 marks. It is sad that our children who have schooled here scored as low as 80 marks. Where shall we take them?” one of the protesters, Simon Kaparo said.

Parents further complained that the sister school to the institution, Naibor Secondary School, could not even admit their pupils, forcing them to resort to becoming warders at nearby conservatives.

In his defence, the headteacher said the allegations were false and they were aimed at compromising his candidature in the forthcoming KNUT elections set for next month. He, however, acknowleged the poor performance of the school saying and said he was not to blame as he normally left another teacher in charge while attending to union matters.
