Police in Nairobi have launched an investigation after a violent intrusion at a private business in Mukuru kwa Reuben left at least 10 people injured.

According to the reports, the goons attacked the business on Sunday and left with goods worth at least Ksh4.8 million, including electronics. The incident has left over 46 workers stranded and jobless.

Speaking on Wednesday, July 23, the workers who had visited the business with hopes to return to work were left stranded after the owner revealed she had no means of restarting the business after losing everything.

According to the employees, the goons stormed the premises on Sunday at around 8 am, barely three hours after they had opened for business. They then looted everything and injured those who tried to retaliate.

''We came to work at  5am. When it got to 8am, strange people just stormed and started throwing stones at us. They ransacked the whole place and looted goods,'' one of the workers explained.

They disclosed that ever since the Sunday incident, they've been grappling with severe financial hardship, unable to afford even basic meals as the business premise had been their only source of income.

''The goons came here, looted a lot of things. We tried to call for the police, who came but didn't do anything; they just watched. Now we are stranded, we don't have money or a job, our children and families are depending on us,'' another worker said.

The owner of the business blamed the incident on the deteriorating state of security in the area, alleging that her business was ransacked while the police watched.

The owner further alleged that her life was in danger.

''I am begging the government, we dont have security in Mukuru kwa Ruben. My goods were looted while police were just watching. I am so much pained by this. I dont have anywhere to start from,'' she said.

The incident has elicited tension in the area, with residents now calling for changes at the local police station. According to the residents, they no longer feel safe and are calling for the government to intervene.

Kenyans have been witnessing increased cases of goon invasion across the country, especially after the recent anti-government protests.
