KTN's Anchor Bags Prestigious BBC Award

One of KTN's prime time anchors has won a new prestigious journalism award.

Nancy Kacungira, was selected from approximately 200 people who had applied for the BBC World News Komla Dumor Award.

The two runners-up for the award were South Africa's Leila Dee Dougan and Ghana's Paa Kwesi Asare.

The award, established in the honor of famous BBC presenter from Ghana- Komla Dumor, was being presented for the first time this year.

Dumor, who died suddenly at the age of 41, was considered one of Africa's most prolific journalists as he presented the continuously developing and entrepreneurial side of Africa through his stories.

He dedicated his work to telling a positive narrative of Africa to the world.

Kacungira, who is of Ugandan descent, has been in the media industry for over a decade having worked in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

Currently, she works as KTN's Prime Time Evening News anchor as well as the channel's social media editor.

Having won the award, Kacungira now has a chance to continue in Komla's legacy by practising journalism on a global scale.

She is set to spend three months at the BBC in London and also report from Africa for the BBC TV, radio and online.
