Lawyer Makau Mutua Informs CS Matiang'i of Mutahi Ngunyi's 'Fake' Academic Papers

Controversial law scholar Prof Makau Mutua has sensationally linked renowned political analyst Prof Mutahi Ngunyi as one of the holders of fake academic papers that should be suspended in the ongoing reforms by Education CS Fred Matiang'i.

Mutua started by asking Matiang'i to publish the names of top politicians who are reported to have received some of the 120,000 degrees that the Commission of University Education found to have been irregularly awarded.

Mutua's message to Matiangi did not stop there as he later wrote another tweet alluding that Ngunyi's was not a genuine professor and that the tyranny of numbers inventor had a fake PhD.

The tweet where Mutua tagged Matiang'i tweeter account read, “There's a fellow who runs a FAKE Fort Hall School of Government. I hear he's a FAKE professor with a FAKE PhD @FredMatiangi”

Ngunyi runs a popular video column which is published by the Fort Hall School of Government.

The tiff between Ngunyi and the New York-based law professor started in 2016 after Mutua questioned the political analyst's credentials.

"In a fortnight, political analysts Mutahi Ngunyi and Peter Kagwanja have claimed academic credentials that apparently they don’t have... Mr Ngunyi, a notorious Kenyan, has claimed to hold a PhD in Political Science and to be Professor of Political Economy. Academic fraud is a serious crime. That’s why serious academics don’t claim titles they don’t have," Mutua wrote on his weekly newspaper column.

At the time, Ngunyi responded in a tweet stating, “Makau's mother does not give Ph.Ds. I am Ph.D in Political Science and Professor of Political Economy. Let him Wikipedia...”
