Leaked Jubilee Campaign Documents Reveals President Kenyatta's Re-election Strategy

Fresh details have emerged on how President Uhuru Kenyatta’s team has adjusted their campaign strategy in reaction to the recent political realignments in the Opposition camp.

The Daily Nation has reported having access to a leaked campaign document that explains how the ruling coalition is set to ensure Kenyatta’s re-election and at the same time capture the majority of elective seats in the country.

The Jubilee team has apparently zoned the country’s counties into three categories; its strongholds, Opposition strongholds, and swing counties.

17 counties, mostly in the Mt Kenya and Rift Valley regions have been categorised as Jubilee strongholds, an equal number of counties in Nyanza, Western and Coast have been classified as strongholds of the National Super Alliance (NASA).

The rest of the counties, mostly those in Maasailand, Northern Kenya, Gusiiland and Nairobi have been categorised as swing votes.

Different areas have also been allocated different political strategies.

The document notes that in the Jubilee strongholds, the focus will be on mobilisation for high voter turnout in both the registration and the actual voting.

The populous Mt Kenya and Rift Valley regions are expected to bring as many votes as possible to neutralise the NASA strongholds that have been associated with low voter registration numbers.

In the NASA strongholds, the Jubilee team hopes to use their allies in those regions to conduct aggressive campaigns that will ensure they get at least a third of the votes.

In the swing votes, the Jubilee team plans to use its point-men in the specific regions to ensure that they get an edge over the Opposition.

In Maasailand, Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery as well as MPs Katoo ole Metito, and Moses ole Sakuda have been chosen to spearhead the Jubilee campaigns and ensure the party dominates over NASA.

In Gusiiland, Kisii Senator Chris Obure, who has since defected from ODM to join Jubilee, will be joined by former CIC Chairman Charles Nyachae in marshalling support for the President’s team.
