Legendary Comedian Dies

Veteran comedian and actor Benson Wanjau popularly known as 'Mzee Ojwang'  is dead.

Mzee Ojwang succumbed to pneumonia at Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi on Sunday evening, NTV reports.

Ojwang is notably known for his hilarious character on KBC's show Vitimbi.

After years out of the limelight the celebrated comedian hit headlines mid march after he was admitted at the Loresho Hospital after a prolonged eye ailment.

Media houses put a spotlight on his struggle to make ends meet.

Citizen Tv reports that on March 10th this year, the Vitimbi crew led by Mama Kayai paid Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko a visit at his office to solicit for aid in taking the ailing comedian to to hospital.

The government stepped in and paid for his medical fee with the Information Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi saying that the government would address the welfare of the Vitimbi crew.

Speaking to KTN on phone, one of his colleagues said he had been getting well until recently when he had to be hospitalized following pneumonia attacks.

According to The Star, Ojwang is survived by his wife Augusta Wanjiru and two children –Patricia Njeri and Michael Karira.

Kenyans took to social media to express their condolences to his family.
