List of ODM and Jubilee Politicians Who Have Lost in Party Nominations

The ongoing party nominations have seen a number of incumbent politicians trounced and new debutants voted in.

Five Governors, one Senator and 22 Members of Parliament (MPs) are among the top leaders who have so far been ousted in the primaries, which are set to go on until Sunday, April 30.

Governors; William Kabogo (Kiambu), John Mruttu ( Taita Taveta), Cleophas Lagat (Nandi), Benjamin Cheboi (Baringo) and Joseph Ndathi (Kirinyaga) lost their seats after they were beaten in their respective counties.

In Kiambu, Kabogo conceded an early defeat to Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu after claiming that there were some forces interested in ousting him.  At the time the Governor conceded defeat, on Tuesday at around 9 pm, Waititu was leading with over 10,000 votes.

In Taita Taveta Governor Mruttu lost to Wundanyi MP Thomas Mwadeghu after garnering 15,911 against Mwadeghu's, 18,421. The Governor appealed to the ODM Party elections board but lost after the board ruled that there would be no repeat elections in the county.

In Nandi County, incumbent Lagat lost to Senator Stephen Sang who got 68,239 votes from five constituencies against Lagat's 17,559 votes with only one constituency remaining.

In Kirinyaga incumbent governor Ndathi was humiliated by former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru who garnered 100,632 votes while he had less that 20,000.

Governor Cheboi lost to Mr Stanley Kiptis who got 65,589 against Cheboi's 21,388 in provisional results from 3 constituencies.

Kitui Senator David Musila on Wednesday lost hid Kitui Gubernatorial bid after he was defeated by incumbent Governor Julius Malombe who garnered 88, 382 votes aginst Musial's 74,308 votes.

Some seasoned MPs have also been shown the door. Top of the list includes Jakoyo Midiwo (Gem), Nicholas Gumbo (Rarieda) and nominated MP Oburu Odinga, who was seeking the Bondo Parliamentary seat.

Jakoyo lost his bid to clinch the ODM ticket after he was beaten by Elisha Odhiambo who got 10,590 votes against Midiwo's 8,950. In the Gubernatorial race, Gumbo who garnered 87,467 votes lost to incumbent Governor Colonel Rasanga who polled 143, 446. 

Oburu lost his bid to clinch the Bondo parliamentary seat after he was defeated by incumbent MP Gideon Ochanda.

Other Legislators who were defeated include; Dennis Waweru (Dagoretti South), Esther Murugi (Nyeri Town), Jacob Macharia (Molo), Wesley Korir (Charangany), Kabando Wa-Kabando (Mukurweini) , Cecily Mbarire (Runyenjes), Mary Wambui (Othaya), Samuel Chepkong'a (Ainabkoi), Esther Gathogo (Ruiru),  Isaac Mwaura Njogu Barua (Gichugu), Peter Gitau (Mwea), Stephen Ngare (Ndia), Sammy Mwaita (Baringo Central), Hellen Sambili (Mogotio), Elijah Lagat (Chesumei), Stephen Bitok (Mosop), Grace Kiptui (Baringo Woman Rep) and Zipporah Kering (Nandi Woman Rep).
