Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua to be Arrested for Failing to Appear Before Senate

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has been ordered to arrest Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua and present him before Parliament.

The Senate Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Thursday wrote to Boinnet asking him to apprehend the governor and present him before it on Monday next week.

PAC gave the directive after Mutua failed to honour summons issued for him to appear before the committee to answer to audit queries in the 2013-14 financial year.

Governor Mutua seemingly angered the Senators given that he had ignored similar summons on previous occasions, with the legislators declaring that he was taking the committee for a ride.

In his defence, the County boss claimed that he was busy dealing with an impeachment motion against him which was tabled and discussed on Wednesday.

The bid to kick him out of office was, however, shot down after 31 Members of County Assembly failed to show up and were said to have been on a trip to Tanzania.

In October, Mutua failed to appear before PAC and instead sent county officials to represent him claiming that he was out of the country on a business trip.

On Monday, was accused of imitating the Head of State after he granted a Presidential-like welcome, which included a guard of honour, to Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony who was in Machakos for a 3-day visit.

The two even went ahead to hold bilateral talks, a trend that is mostly witnessed when Kenyatta hosts other heads of states.
