Maenedelo Ya Wanaume Wants More Protection For Men Against Domestic Violence

Maendeleo ya Wanaume officials have faulted the government for tolerating incidences of violence against men.

Classic 105 reports that the organization's chair, Nderitu Njoka said that the government was not taking the rise in cases of violence against men seriously.

He called on the authorities to provide for men the same legal protection given to women.

His sentiments came after a woman in Nyeri allegedly tried to chop off her husband's genitals out of anger.

He wants the women found guilty of the crime to be sentenced to life imprisonment.

Elsewhere Saidia Dada Network Kenya, a group that seeks to empower young girls and women has announced that it will launch a campaign to discourage cases of domestic violence.

The group's chair Beatrice Githinji was speaking in Ruiru, Nairobi where she said the campaign will be  headed to Kiambu and Nyeri Counties next week.

She said the campaign is aimed at encouraging dialogue among couples, who tend to resort to violence when they disagree.

The campaign will start at the two counties where cases of men being battered have become common.

The group's officials say they will train the women of the area in anger management techniques.
