A 23-year-old waiter is on the run after he was accused of stealing a three-week old baby girl from her mother's arms in Buruburu, Nairobi.
Luqmaan Omar, a waiter at Malindi Dishes Hotel along Luthuli Avenue, is accused of colluding with his cousin to steal the infant from Mercy Ndula after tricking her.
According to Mercy, Luqmaan also known as 'Pesa Chafu' on social media platforms, called on her to check on the progress of the baby after being friends for a short period.
After the visit, she decided to escort the waiter as a show of good hospitality while he assisted her carry the baby.
Upon reaching the exit of their estate, the mother narrated how they met with Luqmaan's cousin who was waiting for him in a getaway vehicle.
The supposed cousin requested Mercy for a glass of water which she willingly accepted to provide leaving the waiter with the kid as she rushed back to her house.
However, when she returned with the requested water, she found the two visitors had disappeared with her baby.
In tears, the distressed mother narrated how she reported the matter to Buruburu Police Station where officers initially dismissed her story, saying they would not take action since it was a holiday period.
