Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i on Thursday humbly thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for giving him the opportunity to serve Kenyans in the education sector.
Announcing the results at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), Matiang'i divulged that Kenyatta supported his ideas in ensuring that candidates got credible KCPE/KCSE results.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the country and the president for that honour,” Education CS stated.
Matiang'i caught everyone by surprise on Thursday morning after he announced the release of the KCPE results.
Even the Head of State disclosed that he was briefed by the CS a few hours to the release of the results.
“President Uhuru Kenyatta was today morning at State House, Nairobi, briefed on the 2016 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results by Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i ahead of the release of the results,” part of the statement from State House read.
This year's national exams have been billed as the most guarded in the Kenyan history with top leaders in the Education Ministry moving around the country to monitor the exams by themselves - a scenario that had never happened before.
Over 950,000 pupils sat for the exam in over 10,000 primary schools across the country.
The release of the primary school examination results comes a day after secondary school candidates completed their KCSE examinations.
