MCAs Demonstrate Over 'Bonga Points' Nickname

Nominated Members of Wajir County Assembly paralyzed Thursday's house business as they protested over what they termed a ploy to belittle and incapacitate them.

The 15 female MCAs, held demonstrations saying that their male counterparts had resorted to calling them bonga points, with the Salaries and Revenue Commission (SRC) sabotaging their work by denying them millage allowances.

“We are not respected as honourable members, we are called flower girls and bonga points by our male counterparts,” one of the MCAs lamented.

The ward representative argued that the lack of millage allowance had reduced them to useless members since they could not move around and push for change.

“We have been belittled, we have been disowned by the service board, they cannot even consult us when they are doing things,” she complained.

Nevertheless, the County Clerk Osman Mohamed supported the protestors stating that they deserved to be seen as equals to their elected colleagues.

Mohamed added that the petition to award the nominated members the millage allowances had been passed and was only waiting to be signed.
