MCAs Injure One Another

A fierce physical confrontation ensued in the County Assembly of Elgeyo Marakwet on Tuesday, after members disagreed with the Speaker's move to stop a motion.

The Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) rose up against Speaker Albert Kochei, roughing him up after he disallowed a motion to eject Clerk Jane Mutai from office.

It is reported that a section of MCAs tried to pick the mace before they were intercepted, sparking the fight which left some of them injured.

Ward Representative for Metkei, Daniel Chirchir, and his counterparts ignited the scuffle as they protested the Speaker's move.

“She has been unable to guide operations of the assembly as required by law and we will not allow her to continue occupying that office,” the Star quoted Chirchir.

The members claimed that Mutai had tolerated corruption in the House, but Kochei ruled that the motion to oust her did not follow the required procudure.

The Assembly business ended unceremoniously as MCAs beat one another.

County lawmakers are known for engaging in physical fights after failing to resolve disagreements that arise in the House.
