MCAs Vow to Continue Beating One Another

Members of Homa Bay County Assembly have vowed to continue exchanging physical blows until 'sanity' is restored in the House.

The County lawmakers announced on Wednesday, amid a fierce clash where they ruthlessly attacked one another after failing to agree on the membership of four lucrative committees.

Chaos erupted after some members decided to yelp when names of the new House Business Committee members were being read out by Speaker Samuel Ochillo.

“We will continue fighting until some people change their mindset in this house,” shouted Oscar Ouma of South Kabuoch ward.

Kendu Bay Town Ward Representative George Otieno was reportedly the first to launch blows targeting his Kakelo-Kwanya counterpart Omuga Orianga, who was shouting to stop him from interrupting the Speaker.

When other members went to rescue the overpowered MCA, hell broke loose as Karachuonyo Central MCA Julius Gaya pounced on Mary Amwata, who is a nominated member. This attracted women MCAs Rachael Polo and Ruth Ombura to fight off Mr Gaya.

"Why must Gaya beat Amwata? We cannot accept women to be harassed and intimidated by our male counterparts in this Assembly. Women must be respected," protested Ms Ombura.

Speaker Ochillo had to suspend the Assembly proceedings abruptly after the members became uncontrollable.

Majority Chief Whip Johnson Ochola and Kwabwai Ward-Rep Richard Ogindo condemned the rowdy behaviour, linking the chaos to selfish interests among members out to enrich themselves through the committees.

Similar incidents of physical confrontation among MCAs have in the past been witnessed in Nyeri, Kisumu, Nakuru and Murang'a counties.
