Meru Residents Vow Not to Vote for Jubilee After President Uhuru Kenyatta Cancelled Tour to Meru and Tharaka Nithi

President Uhuru Kenyatta's decision to cancel his trip to Tharaka Nithi and Meru Counties at the last minute has caused anger among the residents who are now accusing him of abandoning the region.

On Monday, a section of Meru residents declared that they will not vote for the Jubilee Government in the upcoming August poll.

"This is the second time the President has cancelled his tour to Meru without giving a solid reason," an angry resident expressed.

"Since we gave Uhuru our vote he has frequently visited Mombasa County and neglected us. We will stick with the National Super Alliance (NASA). There is nothing the Jubilee Government has done for the people of Meru," another resident declared.

President Kenyatta had scheduled a two-day tour to the vote-rich Meru and Tharaka Nithi Counties but cancelled it over what State House Spokesperson Manoah Esipisu described as unavoidable circumstances.

"Due to unavoidable circumstances, His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta will not be making a two-day visit to Tharaka Nithi and Meru Counties, starting tomorrow, as had earlier been indicated.

"President Kenyatta will, however, make a visit to the Western region of Kenya later on in the week, which will include Trans Nzoia, Bungoma, Busia and Kakamega counties," the State House spokesman explained on Monday.

In January, Uhuru surprised the residents of Meru when he failed to attend the burial of Former Kenya Planters Co-operative Union (KPCU) Director and Cooperative Bank founder Henry Kinyua.

The red carpet that had been rolled out for him was folded and returned to Nairobi.

Senior Security officers who had taken their positions waiting for him were recaled from their posts.

Uhuru's media team was also forced to pack their apparatus after they learnt Uhuru would not be attending the burial.
