Mitumba Seller Becomes a Multi-Millionnaire Overnight

David Kemboi, a second hand shoes seller and a small scale farmer from Elgeyo-Marakwet County is the newest millionaire in Kenya.

The father of six owes his overnight change in fortune to a lottery in which he won Sh50million.

Kemboi became Zindua Chapaa's jackpot winner on Monday, bagging more money than he had ever dared to hope.

Speaking during the official presentation of the cheque, Kemboi, who was accompanied by his wife and all his children recounted the journey that saw him bag the money.

He started participating in the game in April this year, as soon as it was officially kicked off.

Sending answers to questions asked via text, each costing Sh 19 sometimes proved to be too expensive for Kemboi when he started spending up to Sh 50,000 a day, and he was forced to acquire loans from friends.

He kept playing, hoping that he would win at least Sh 100,000 to enable him pump some extra capital to his business, as well as pay back the money he had borrowed.

On Monday when he received the good news via a call, the businessman was on his way to get more stock.

He rushed back home to break the news to his wife, who was skeptical as Kemboi had kept her in the dark on the issue of his participation in the game.

On how he plans to spend the money, the excited Kemboi -being a believer- said he will give 10% of the money to his local church as tithe.

He will use the rest of the money to educate his children, add capital to his business and build a good house for his family.
