Mohammed Ali's Name Missing From ODM Party Members Register

Former KTN journalist Mohammed Ali on Saturday expressed surprise after finding that  name was missing from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) members register.

Mr Ali who is vying for the Nyali parliamentary seat on an ODM ticket arrived at the Mlaleo polling station to cast his vote only for him to be told that he was not on the register.

Speaking to journalists after the discovery, Ali called on the party to cancel the nomination accusing a section of the officials of mischief.

"This is not an election. It should be called off immediately. Joho and his brother should keep off ODM election matters," he stated.

He blamed Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho of scheming to rig him out of the parliamentary race since he is competing against his (Joho) cousin, Said Abdhalla alias Saido.

The former investigative journalist alleged that some polling centers were being manned by Joho's point-men.

Ali further accused Mombasa ODM Chairman Mohammed Hatimy of planning to influence the vote in favour of Abdhalla.

He narrated how he found a man claiming to be Hatimy's Personal Assistant acting as a party agent at one of the centres located at Mkomani Showground.

"We searched for his name as an agent in the register, but it was missing. We called police officers and he ran away," Ali stated.

However, Saido who cast his vote at Kongowea, dismissed the claims asserting that all he was concerned about was for the party to hold credible elections.
