Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho Attacks President Uhuru Kenyatta Over Press Briefing During NASA Event

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho on Thursday launched a new attack on President Uhuru Kenyatta accusing him of attempting to divide viewership during the National Super Alliance (NASA) flagbearer launch at Uhuru Park in Nairobi.

According to Joho, President Kenyatta's move to hold a press briefing yesterday at Jubilee headquarters was a deliberate move to interfere with the NASA event and create confusion among viewers.

While addressing the Uhuru Park rally, the Governor urged the president and his deputy to quickly complete the briefing and tune into the NASA rally.

“I hear that President Uhuru Kenyatta called a press conference to compete against our rally. I am asking him to finish the address and tune into different media platforms to watch our rally. I am relaying the same message to Deputy President William Ruto,” Joho noted.

It is still unclear whether the President's motive was to compete with the NASA rally but reports indicate that the Head of State called the press conference to address Jubilee politicians on the party primaries that had just been concluded.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) deputy party leader and President Kenyatta have in the past been engaged in a war of words and bitter exchanges over developmental issues.

In March, Joho was blocked from accessing an event in his county set to be presided over by the Head of State after he indicated that Uhuru was relaunching projects of the grand coalition government and not doing anything new.
