Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has unveiled a Bill proposing that Kenyans be allowed to use violence in defending themselves and their businesses.
The Kenya Stand Your Ground Bill provides civilians with a legal framework to use force in the protection of their lives and property.
However, the proposed law has raised confusion on it's motive and implementation even as fears abound that it could result in escalation of violence and the disruption of order.
The timing of the law has also been a cause for worry given that the country is heading towards a General Election – which has in the past been followed by violence.
Indeed, Kuria did not hide the fact that his bill was made with the 2017 election in mind.
“I know some thugs will try to harm fellow Kenyans and their property next year claiming elections have been stolen,” he stated while announcing the Bill will be tabled after Parliament resumes from recess.
The Gatundu South MP did not mince his words in announcing trouble for those who would fall victim to the yet to be passed law.
“If you find your brains spread on the streets, don't say I didn't warn you. The Kenyan Stand Your Ground Bill will cushion Kenyans from prosecution if they use force to defend their lives, property or business,” he warned.
