MP Facing Rape Charges Accuses Lawyer of Evidence Interference

Imenti Central MP Gideon Mwiti has accused a lawyer of tampering with evidence in a rape case he is facing.

The MP has today claimed before high court that lawyer Harun Ndubi instructed doctors at Nairobi Women's hospital to interfere with the evidence.

Mwiti submitted before judge Weldon Korir that Mr Ndubi directed the doctors to cut the clothes of the victim into two pieces, the Nation reports.

The MP's lawyer John Khaminwa, has also complained that he has not received all the evidence he required to prepare his defence.

The accused now wants the court to dismiss the case on grounds that evidence has been interfered with.

Judge korir has however, directed that all the parties, including the Director of Public Prosecutions and the MP, to file written submissions covering all the details of the evidence they want presented.

The case is due for further directions on August 10.

Mwiti is facing rape and intimidation charges where he is accused of raping and intimidating a former journalist on 21 March 2015 at Tana club in Westlands Nairobi.

The MP has since denied the charges.
