MP Kicked Out of Assembly for Hosting Raila

A Member of Parliament has been served with an eviction notice for hosting CORD leader Raila Odinga in the Nyamira Assembly on Friday.

West Mugirango MP James Gesami was ordered out of the Nyamira County Assembly premises for ‘defiling’ the house after holding an 'illegal' rally on its compounds.

Nyamira Speaker Joash Nyamoko on Monday stated that the ODM leadership defied written laws guarding jurisdiction of the assembly.

“They defiled the assembly grounds by holding a political rally at the assembly. It is an abomination. It is unheard of anywhere in the commonwealth countries,” Nyamoko was quoted by the Star.

The Speaker noted that the MP had abused privileges accorded to him by the county's parliament and confirmed Mr Gesami had been served with the notice to move his CDF offices from the County Assembly.

However, Gesami denied violating any law and warned the speaker against removing him from the County Assembly.

Odinga was forced to attend two rallies one organised by the area Governor, John Nyagarama, while the other was planned by MPs Alice Chae, Timothy Bosire, Gesami and Charles Geni.

The MPs stated that they were not aware of the meeting arranged by the Governor and implied it might have been a plan to embarrass them.

There has been a political rivalry between the Governor and MP Gesami after the latter declared interest in the Nyamira gubernatorial seat.
