MP Linked to Dangerous Gang

A group of 17 youths suspected to be members of a deadly gang were arrested in Mombasa County with machetes and hard drugs.

The youngsters are said to be members of the notorious Wakali Kwanza (The Tough First) and Wakali Wao (The Toughest of Them All) gangs which terrorize residents in Kisauni.

A sitting Member of Parliament and a former Councillor are reportedly under investigations for allegedly funding the group.

The suspects who are between the ages of 12 and 26, are said to be behind muggings and violent robberies in the area.

Mombasa County Deputy Commissioner Salim Mahmud assured that the suspects would be arraigned in court and charged with possession of drugs and attempt to commit felony

In December 2015, 50 members of the Wakali Kwanza gang were arrested in the coastal town. The machete wielding gang members were purported to be financed by prominent wealthy people who gave them Sh500 after they went on an operation.

Early this year, a survey conducted by three institutions revealed the most dangerous gangs in Nairobi.

According to the report, Gaza gang, a notorious group based in Kayole, Superpower in Eastleigh and the 40 Brothers of Eastlands were the most lethal groups in the City.
