MP Now Linked to Deadly Gang in Mombasa

Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa has confirmed that the police have obtained some vital information connecting a Mombasa MP with the much feared Wakali Kwanza gang.

The gang, which has several other splinter groups, has been perpetuating violence and causing mayhem to the Mombasa residents especially in Kisauni, Mishomoroni and Kongowea areas by attacking people and hijacking matatus in broad daylight.

Speaking in Mombasa on Tuesday, the administrator asserted that the local legislator was closely connected with the youthful gang, whose majority members are aged between 12- 18 years.

“We have obtained a live communication between an MP and the members of the outlawed gang,” emphasized Marwa as reported by the Star

Last year, the police began a gallant fight against the Wakali Kwanza (Survival for the fittest) gang and its splinter groups - Wakali Wao (Toughest of them all) and Wakali Kweli (Extremely tough) - to subdue its activities in the area, but the efforts were being thwarted by politicians bailing the arrested criminals before they could be charged in court.

Marwa said the lawmaker has been overseeing the activities of the group and is actively involved in ferrying the gang members from other far locations like Kaloleni to attack residents.

The administrator warned that those involved in the criminal activities will be dealt with regardless of their stature or position.

“We are warning these individuals, regardless of their positions, they will all be arrested. You cannot finance someone to cause disturbance. That is unacceptable,” Marwa added.

In July last year, Marwa stressed that wealthy and influential individuals financed the Wakali Kwanza gang, also indicating that the gang was a militia specifically prepared for the 2017 polls.
