Mugo wa Wairimu Finally Hit with 12 Charges

Fake Doctor James Mugo Ndichu, was on Friday charged with 12 counts among them, rape, operating a clinic without valid licences and masquerading as a gynaecologist.

Mugo was also charged with administering unknown drugs to a person, unlawfully carrying out the business of a pharmacist yet not registered with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, stocking and using unvalidated medical laboratory reagents and employing an unregistered and unlicensed laboratory technologist.

In addition, the fake gynaecologist was slapped with charges of operating a laboratory without the approval of the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board, practicing as unregistered and unlicensed person and possession of irradiation device without licence.

The accused rapist, who appeared before a Nairobi Court, however, denied all the charges before the prosecution jumped in and requested that he remains in remand.

Mr Ndichu's lawyer, Peter Macharia, strongly protested the move claiming that the defendant had always been in police custody and was loyal, therefore could not flee the country.

Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo ordered the 'doctor' be detained till October 5 when his bond hearing will be heard and determined.

The prosecution also highlighted that two key witnesses who were out of town, were yet to record statements with the police.

On September 25, Wairimu was detained for seven more days to allow further investigations into allegations that he violated his patients.

Mr Ndichu, also known as Mugo wa Wairimu, was arrested on September 2, days after a video aired by Citizen TV showed a man allegedly sedating and raping a woman in a clinic.

The police launched investigations into the matter after witnesses came forth, claiming that the man in the video was Mugo wa Wairimu.
