Mumia Youth Explain Why They Smashed Raila's Car Window

Days after attacking ODM leader Raila Odinga and his deputy Wycliffe Oparanya, a section of the youth in Mumias has apologised to the two leaders claiming that they did not intend to cause them harm.

The youth added that their violent acts were meant to warn the two leaders to avoid the company of some of the local MCAs who they alleged had failed in their work.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Faraj Faluma and Musa Ekay stated that they had a lot of respect for the former Prime Minister adding that he was welcome to visit them anytime.

“So the chaos that erupted at Shibale were aimed at showing Raila and Oparanya that we are fed up with the kind of MCAs who are tailing the governor wherever he goes," Faluma claimed.

They explained that the violence that resulted in one of Odinga’s cars being smashed, was not intentional but was only meant to discipline some of his ward representatives.

“Some of the MCAs have failed to understand that we voted for them alongside the Governor yet they have been flower girls. They follow him wherever he goes but do not do much in their ward,” Ekaya stated.

Last week, supporters of Mumias MP Benjamin Washiali attacked the ODM convoy after Odinga sent two MCAs to check if he could address the crowd that was protesting police brutality.
