Mutahi Ngunyi: I Do Not Know Anne Waiguru

Political Analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has claimed not knowing former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru, despite both being implicated and closely linked in the alleged Sh791 Million NYS scandal.

In a press statement released on Tuesday, Ngunyi responded to revelations filed in the affidavit presented in court on Monday by one Josephine Kabura Irungu, where he was mentioned as a person of interest in the alleged fraudulent loss of Sh791 Million from the NYS coffers.

"I cannot defend former CS Anne Waiguru any more. Besides, I do not know her. Our relationship was clinical and my strict brief at NYS was to restructure, not to fight corruption cartels,” reads the statement in part.

Mr Ngunyi further threatened that he would sue Ms Irungu over defamation once he gets himself off the hook.

In the sworn affidavit by Ms Irungu, who is a key suspect in the NYS scandal, Ngunyi is said to have advised Waiguru to release a statement that would calm down the public, when reports emerged regarding money loss at the department.

“He (Ngunyi) also advised her to do a backdated letter on the purportedly stolen password...This backdated letter was dated June 5, 2015,” Ms Irungu claimed.

Similarly, Waiguru also dismissed the affidavit, terming it a smear campaign by cartels out to see her downfall. She also claimed that she does not know Josephine Kabura Irungu neither has she (Waiguru) met her before.
