Muturi Kigano Wins Jubilee Kangema Nominations After 43 Years of Waiting

The recent Jubilee party primaries were the big break that one Muturi Kigano had been waiting for.

The Nairobi-based lawyer first contested for the Kangema Parliamentary seat in 1974 at the age of 28 and lost.

He has faithfully contested in subsequent elections and lost each time.

However, the series of his losses did not dampen his spirit for a dream he believed in.

The 71-year-old lawyer found something to smile about after trouncing all his opponents in the Jubilee party primaries.

His victory was made sweeter after his opponents united to support his candidature following a directive by president Uhuru Kenyatta that losers should support candidates who were nominated.

In a region where Jubilee is the party to beat, his 43-year-old wait to be the MP may as well be over.

After losing to incumbent Titus Ngahu in the last two elections, Mr Kigano turned tables to move a step closer to a dream he has chased for close to five decades.

The dominant former Kangema Member of Parliament John Michuki kept Kigano out of Parliament with a series of defeats.

Upon Michuki's death, Kigano contested in the by-election but came a distant fourth, losing to Titus Ngahu.

Ngahu went on to beat him in the 2013 General Election condemning him to five more years of waiting.

Voters in Kangema will be keen to see if the Nairobi-based lawyer will fulfil his campaign pledges should he win the seat after 43 years of waiting.
