Nairobi Businessman Paul Kobia Tries to Attack Magistrate in Court

Nairobi businessman Paul Kobia caused drama in a Nairobi Magistrate court when he attempted to attack the Presiding Magistrate.

The controversial millionaire was protesting against being dragged from the hospital to face kidnapping charges.

“Listen to me your honour, this court is unfair to me. Why have I been taken out of a hospital bed to attend court?" Kobia lamented while crying and charging towards the Magistrate.

His violent act forced the court orderlies to swing into action, pouncing on him before he could attack the Judge.

Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi had issued a directive ordering Mr Kobia to appear in court on Monday.

Kobia’s defence lawyers Henry Kurauka and Karathe Wadungi filed an application requesting the plea to be deferred claiming their client had been involved in a road accident and was admitted at Guru Nanak hospital.

Prosecutor Edde Kadebe, however, dismissed their request claiming that there was no evidence in court to show that the accident had occurred.

Drama is said to have continued outside the court cells as wives of Kobia’s four bodyguards blamed the controversial businessman for the troubles facing their husband.

Kobia was arrested about three weeks ago together with his four bodyguards on March 8th for allegedly kidnapping Congolese businessman, Londole Iseka Blanchard.

They all appeared before Milimani Magistrate Miriam Mukule and were each released with the option of Sh100,000 bond.

In 2015, Kobia was linked to the death of Opposition chief Raila Odinga's son Fidel Odinga. He, however, denied the claim.

Kobia was recently on the spot after he was captured threatening President Uhuru Kenyatta’s private secretary Jomo Gecaga with unspecified consequences over what he termed as being blocked from accessing State House.
