Nairobi County Government Unable to Send MCA Representatives to Naivasha Conference Due to Financial Challenges

The Nairobi County Government has revealed worrying details on its financial state after it was unable to send representatives from the County Assembly to attend the critical Devolution conference that was opened by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday.

This was after the county service board indicated that it did not have resources to take representatives of the county assembly to Naivasha.

The County Service board had been placed on the spotlight by a number of MCAs who did not understand why it did not send representatives to the Naivasha conference attended by all stakeholders in the devolved functions of government.

Most of the other county assemblies have sent huge delegations to the lakeside town of Naivasha as they deliberate on the progress made in the past four years.

On Tuesday, the Nairobi MCAs hurriedly passed a motion to adjourn the House so that they could attend the remaining three days of the conference.

The speaker, however, declined to pose the question after he was informed by the County Service board that there was no money for the officials to actualize that motion.

Makongeni MCA Peter Anyule Imwatok disagreed with the claims of financial incapacity, even revealing that the labour committee is currently in Panama on official business.

The MCAs refused to abandon the trip and eventually agreed that they would hold a four-day retreat in Naivasha from April 6 where they would be informed on what will be discussed at this week’s conference.
