Nairobi County Govt Lose Millions as Motorists Enjoy Free Parking

Motorists in Nairobi yesterday enjoyed free car parking, over what is said to be collapsing of the digital revenue collection system.

The online fees collection system, dubbed eJijiPay broke down for most of Thursday, leaving parking attendants with little to do since the county migrated from the manual platform in December 2014.

The breakdown reportedly lead to a financial loss estimated at Sh2 million, the Business Daily reports.

Car owners pay Sh300 per day as parking fees.

The Ejijipay cashless payment system technology is supported by JamboPay, which is also used by Nairobi Water Company to electronically collect water bill payments made by Nairobi residents.

It provides a platform for Nairobi residents to pay for services electronically.

Other services currently offered electronically include: application and renewal for single business permit, payment of land rates, paying rent for County houses and payment of construction fee

Currently, it collects about 30 per cent of the county’s total revenues.

In the fiscal year that ended last month, the company collected Sh3 billion for the county.
