Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero Writes to National Government Demanding Sh9.8 Million Revenue Owed In Parking Fees

Nairobi County Governor Evans Kidero has written a letter to President Uhuru Kenyatta demanding that the National Government pay Sh9.8 Million lost in revenue.

In a report tabled by Nairobi County Trade Tourism and Cooperatives chair Wilfred Odalo, the county revealed that the National Government had not paid parking fees it accumulated during the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), last year.

Odalo stated that Nairobi County had earmarked Red Zones all over the city that had parking space totally restricted to cater for the dignitaries attending the UNCTAD meeting.

He, however, noted that the county lost millions of revenue during the event after the zones that would have otherwise been paid for by regular Kenyans were occupied by the dignitaries and had not been paid for thus far.

The chair highlighted that the county did its part by facilitating the dignitaries as the event was of importance to Kenya and the region.

Odalo pointed out that the County Executive of Finance had written to the National Government seeking to be reimbursed the Sh9.8 Million

He lamented that the loss had impacted on service delivery and noted that despite the best of efforts on the same, nothing has been forthcoming from the executive.

The UNCTAD conference brought together Heads of State and Government, ministers, businessmen, civil society and academia who discussed means to tackle global trade and economic development issues.
