Nairobi MCA Injured in Office Fight

A Nairobi Member of County Assembly (MCA) is recuperating in hospital after reportedly being attacked by a colleague in the House.

Elizabeth Manyala, who represents Kayole South ward, claimed that she was brutally assaulted by the Majority Leader of the Assembly, following a heated debate.

According to Ms Manyala, Elias Otieno slapped and pushed her against a wall causing her serious injuries, after disagreeing over a message he had sent asking her to sign off a withdrawal of Sh800,000 from an account of a group she chairs.

“I am currently at the Nairobi Hospital. I am suffering from injuries on my neck and I’m waiting for a CT scan because I might have a crack on my skull,” Manyala told Nation.

The female MCA, who also chairs the County Women Caucus, said that her colleagues were present in Otieno's office where the incident happened, a claim which was backed by another ward representative.

However, the majority leader denied the allegation stating that Ms Manyala had stormed his office threatening to beat him after trying to intervene in a situation, where members of the assembly needed money to attend an event in Mombasa.

“I heard Ms Imanyala shout and bang the table, removing her shoes and threatening to tear her clothes. I do not remember beating her,” explained Mr Otieno.

Mr Otieno claimed to be the victim in the incident, adding that members present in his office would collaborate the story.
