Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko Accuses Maina Kamanda of Colluding to Rig Party Primaries

A meeting held on Thursday for Jubilee Party aspirants at Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi turned chaotic soon after Senator Mike Sonko arrived.

Violence erupted when supporters of the Nairobi Senator accused those backing Starehe Member of Parliament (MP) Maina Kamanda of plotting to rig the party primaries to favour former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth.

The meeting had been organised for the aspirants to propose names of those they would like to oversee the upcoming party primaries.

Sonko's supporters stormed out of the meeting as soon as the aspirants begun to cast their ballots for the overseers. They later came back and begun throwing seats and attacking those in the hall.

“You will not oversee this process. We cannot accept. This is an aspirant driven process,” a supporter protested.

A member of the Elections Board, who was presiding over the process, left angrily after letting the protesters know that the process was now in their hands.

“You go and agree on 17 names and bring them to me,” Mr Micheal Waweru emphasised as he evaded the protesters who were charging at him.
