NASA to Select Candidates by Consensus or Joint Nominations

The National Super Alliance (NASA) team has made yet another breakthrough as it seeks to identify the best method of coming up with its candidates including the presidential flag bearer.

The 12-member committee has identified a formula of how to choose candidates for the presidency, gubernatorial, senate and parliamentary seats both by consensus and nominations.

The team, which retreated for a meeting after the unveiling of the Alliance on Wednesday, is said to have drafted a document which maps out regions depending on the popularity of the four parties which form NASA.

The technical team has identified close to 14 counties where the parties will have to either agree by consensus or have joint nominations to avoid fielding multiple candidates from the Opposition and end up losing to their opponents.

In these counties, ODM, ANC, Wiper and Ford Kenya which are parties to the Alliance will have to come up with an agreeable candidate depending on their popularity in those regions.

As per the new agreement, this popularity formula will also determine who between NASA'a co-principals Raila Odinga, Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula and Kalonzo Musyoka would be selected as the presidential flag bearer.

According to a report by the Standard, the committee will on Tuesday issue a statement on the next step of selecting who would take on President Uhuru Kenyatta during the August 8 General Election.

There have been uncertainties on the best formula the Alliance should use in selecting its candidate, given that all the four leaders have already expressed interest in the Presidency.

The agreed upon document will be presented to the parties on Monday for ratification and endorsement.
