NIS Officer Mistaken for Robber Killed by Mob

A National Intelligence Service officer was killed in cold blood by a mob in Nairobi's Buruburu area in a case of mistaken identity gone horribly wrong.

The slain officer -Anthony Kimathi- and two of his colleagues were driving towards outering road.

Caught up in traffic, Kimathi got out of the car and tried to direct flow of vehicles in an effort to ease the traffic.

One motorist, however, is said to have defied Kimathi and blocked the car the officers were in.

The argument that would ensue between the two would see Kimathi allegedly draw his gun and fire into the air.

Being in civilian clothes made motorists mistake Kimathi for an armed criminal.

They descended on him, beating him.

He was taken to hospital with serious injuries which he later succumbed to.

The other two officers escaped unhurt.

Unconfirmed reports have suggested that the deceased shot and injured a motorist when he drew out the gun.

Police investigations into the matter are, however, ongoing.
