Nyenze Orders NASA to Name Kalonzo as Presidential Candidate by April 5

Wiper Party has given the National Super Alliance (NASA) a one-week ultimatum to name its leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, as the Presidential flag bearer.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Kitui West MP Francis Nyenze gave the Alliance until April 5 to select its candidate failure to which the Party would leave NASA.

Nyenze, who represents Wiper in NASA's coordinating committee, maintained that the Coalition should consider a 2013 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) apparently agreed upon by Musyoka and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The National Assembly Minority Leader affirmed that though he personally made the statement, he was giving the stand of a majority of his colleagues in the party.

“It's my statement and I belong to Wiper so that's what the combination is saying. We speak on his (Kalonzo) behalf and it's the feeling of all the party members," he stated.

Questioned over the ongoing talks to pick a suitable candidate, Nyenze disclosed that the negotiations had collapsed due to the disagreement revolving the MoU.

“The talks have stalled because of the 2013 MoU. There is a stalemate,” he divulged.

According to the Agreement, Musyoka was supposed to support Odinga's presidential bid in the 2013 polls, then the ODM leader would support his candidature in the August 8 polls.

The MoU has since been dismissed by a section of ODM leaders as a gentleman's agreement which was not binding.

On Tuesday, more than 10 leaders from the Ukambani region declared their support for Kalonzo who is seeking to be named NASA's candidate in the upcoming election.

They maintained that they would use their unity to bargain for their party boss to be selected as the Opposition's flag bearer, warning other parties in the Alliance to treat Wiper like an equal partner.
