Ukambani Leaders Declare to Support Kalonzo's Presidential Bid

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka's presidential bid has received a major boost following a declaration made on Tuesday.

This came after more than 10 senior leaders from the Ukambani region vowed to push for him to clinch the National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential ticket during a 'historic' meeting held at Emali, Makueni County.

The event brought together previous political nemesis including Kitui Senator David Musila and Governor Julius Malombe who have previously not seen eye to eye and Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama who had seemingly been cold on Kalonzo's bid.

One after the other, the leaders declared that it was time for Musyoka to lead the country having been on the political corridors for many years.

Speaking at the forum, Musila maintained that they would use the unity to affirm their stand that their party was an equal partner in NASA.

"With what we have started today, our friends in NASA should now be prepared to support Kalonzo as the presidential flag bearer. Let them also know that we are not junior partners in the coalition,” he stated.

On his part, Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana called on Musyoka to stop responding to claims that he was leaving the Opposition, urging his counterparts not to betray their party leader.

At the same time, Nairobi deputy governor Jonathan Mueke maintained that the Wiper boss should use their support to bargain his quest to be the NASA flag bearer.

Others present at the meeting included Narc leader Charity Ngilu, Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior, former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti, Kibwezi East MP Jessica Mbalu among others.

Musyoka is seeking to lead the Opposition in a bid to dethrone President Uhuru Kenyatta in the August 8 General Election.
