Oburu Odinga Caught Up Between Jakoyo Midiwo–Cornel Rasanga Fights

Raila Odinga's elder brother, Oburu Odinga has been pulled into the ongoing fight for power between Gem Member of Parliament (MP) Jakoyo Midiwo and Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga.

Midiwo, who is Raila's cousin, recently started a campaign imploring voters not to re-elect four Nyanza Governors, among them Rasanga, claiming that they had defrauded the people through corrupt practice and nepotism.

The Gem MP, along with two other Nyanza MPs, now claim that Rasanga has been working under the instruction of Oburu. The MPs asserted that top decisions made by the Rasanga administration had all come from Raila's brother who lives in the county.

Yesterday, Oburu dismissed the claims saying that he was merely a resident of Siaya who offers his opinion on county issues.

The nominated MP further told journalists from The Star that he frequently offered the county administration suggestions and the county leadership was free to either implement them or not.

The deputy governor of Siaya County, Mr Wilson Onyango, also responded to the allegations reassuring the people that county decisions were made by the residents.

“We cannot implement a decision without residents’ participation. The same applies to projects,” he commented.

Rasanga was appalled by Midiwo's remarks noting that the utterances had been going on long enough. He indicated that he would seek legal action against Midiwo and his counterparts.
