Barely a week after defecting to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Kenya's ambassador to Tanzania Chirau Ali Mwakwere has been warned against destabilising the Orange Party.
Mwakwere ditched President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Party, which he supported in 2013 Elections and declared that he would vie for the Gubernatorial seat in Kwale County.
However, Msambweni Sub-County ODM chairman Abdalla Mambo warned the ambassador to brace himself for a stiff competition.
“We want to welcome Mwakwere to ODM but at the same time warn him because we still remember that he sold our party, Shirikisho, to PNU. He should not come to ODM through the backdoor and do the same,” Mambo stated.
Nevertheless, the ODM chairman welcomed Mwakwere to the Orange Party claiming its the most popular Party in Kenya.
The former Matuga Member of Parliament (MP), who was a staunch Jubilee Coalition member, vied for the Kwale Senatorial seat in 2013 but lost to incumbent Senator Boy Juma Boy.
After the loss, the former Cabinet Minister in the Grand Coalition government was repaid for his loyalty and was appointed as ambassador to Tanzania.
Mwakwere will now face the incumbent Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya, who has ditched ODM and joined the ruling coalition.
Other candidates eyeing the same seat on an ODM ticket include: Issa Chipera, Kwale County Speaker – Sammy Ruwa, Mohammed Mwachai, Nicholas Zani and Gereza Dena.
