ODM Delivers Verdict on Disputed Nomination Results

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) dispute tribunal on Saturday evening dealt a major blow to nominated Member of Parliament (MP) Oburu Odinga and his Gem counterpart Jakoyo Midiwo after it overruled their nominations appeals.

The ODM National Elections Board Chairperson Judy Pareno in a presser stated that Bondo incumbent member of Parliament Gideon Ochanda was the outright winner.

Last week, both Oburu and Ochanda had been declared winners by different returning officers.

In Gem constituency, the tribunal upheld Elisha Odhiambo's win against National Assembly deputy minority leader after he won by 13,400 against Midiwo's 8,900 votes.

Homa-Bay County Governor Cyprian Awiti's win was also upheld after the tribunal found that the exercise was free and fair and that Awiti had clearly defeated his closest rival Joseph Oyugi Magwanga with over 50,000 votes.

The Board also passed a verdict on Kisumu Gubernatorial contest declaring Senator Anyang Nyong'o as the winner of the nominations.

The Tribunal, however, did not issue a verdict on Migori County stating that the case was still at the tribunal.

“Migori Gubernatorial results are pending as the case is still be heard at the tribunal," Pareno stated.

The ODM Executive Director Oduor Ongwen warned aspirants against declaring themselves winners stating that the party only recognized results from one returning officer.

“ Results are only announced by one returning officer and every county has one returning officer.

ODM has been conducting its nomination since 13th April and will conclude on Sunday April 30th with Nairobi primaries.
