ODM Nominations Postponed to April 13

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has rescheduled its nominations following a directive from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries (IEBC).

Making the changes a day before the primaries began, ODM leader Raila Odinga stated that the process had been postponed to April 13.

Odinga added that the process would run all the way to April 25. The nominations are set to start in Busia and Bungoma counties.

The changes were made after the IEBC insisted that the primaries by all political parties be conducted after the gazetting of aspirants which will be done on April 12.

At the same time, Odinga urged the ODM board tasked with conducting the election to ensure the process is free and fair.

He warned against victimising women and physically challenged aspirants adding that those found guilty of such an offence would be suspended from participating in the exercise.

Odinga further cautioned those perpetrating the violence being witnessed in ODM meetings as the political temperature continues to rise.

On this regard, party Secretary General Agnes Zani divulged that over 12 ODM leaders had been summoned over the chaos that erupted in Mathare, Migori and Ruaraka in the last few weeks.

Those asked to appear before the disciplinary committee include Mombasa Senator Hassan Joho, Okoth Obado (Homa Bay), Senators James Orengo and Elizabeth Ongoro, MPs Tom Kajwang' (Ruaraka) and Junet Mohamed (Suna East).
