ODM Postpones Nominations in 5 Coastal Counties

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Elections Board has postponed party nominations in five coastal counties.

In a statement sent to newsrooms, the elections board noted that they had postponed the nominations in Mombasa, Kwale, Tana River, Kilifi and Lamu Counties.

According to the statement, the nominations were scheduled to take place on Wednesday 19th April but have now been postponed to Saturday 22nd April.

"Due to unanticipated circumstances, the National Elections Board of the ODM party has postponed the scheduled primaries in the five Coast counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Tana River and Lamu from Wednesday 19th April 2017 to Saturday 22nd April 2017," the statement read in part.

The Board Chairperson Judith Pareno appealed to aspirants and members in the five Counties to be patient stating that the board was preparing for an exercise that will be free fair and satisfactory to all.

Meanwhile, the Nakuru ODM elections board on Tuesday postponed nominations in Nakuru Town West as names of some candidates were missing from the ballot papers yet they had been cleared by the party to vie for the elections.

"We could not continue with the nominations in Nakuru Town West because the names of the candidates were missing from the ballot papers yet they had been cleared," ODM County chairman Peter Ole Osono stated.

The ODM nominations that kicked off on 13th April have been marred by violence where aspirants and party members have attacked the different county election boards citing massive irregularities in the primaries.

The party nominations are set to be concluded on 26th April 2017.
