One Killed in ODM Elections

One person died in Ndhiwa constituency, Homa Bay County after riots broke out during Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) grassroots elections.

Followers of the County's Women Representative Gladys Wanga and Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma, engaged in stone throwing battles accusing each other of interfering with the primary elections.

Confirming the incident, County Police Commander John Omusanga, said that the man died during a stampede after supporters of the two legislators clashed at Rangwe Primary School.

Since the onset of the ongoing ODM grassroot elections, several chaotic incidents have emerged, following confrontations among opposing factions. On Monday night, two MPs accompanied by more than 200 goons overpowered security officers and gained entry into the county's electoral offices.

They went ahead to steal election materials throwing poll arrangements into disarray. However, they reportedly returned the materials allowing for the polls to proceed in the area, where the death incident occurred.

In September, an ODM office was set ablaze at Dandora Phase 4 in Nairobi due to disagreement between two warring factions, after the party announced suspension of elections in 17 constituencies.
