Onyango Oloo: How We Withdrew Money from TNA Accounts

Former TNA Party Secretary-General Onyango Oloo continues to disclose the political intrigues that transpired as he worked towards ensuring President Uhuru Kenyatta secured victory in the 2013 General Election.

In his latest revelations, Oloo, who has since decamped to the Opposition, discloses of an incident where - together with former TNA Chairman Johnson Sakaja - he secretly withdrew money from the Party’s account just to set everything right for Uhuru.

According to Oloo, on the eve of the day Uhuru had agreed to step down for ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi to contest for Presidency, the TNA henchmen decided to go against the party leader's wish.

Oloo disclosed to a local daily that he and Sakaja withdrew money from the party’s account without consulting anybody and convened a National Delegates Conference (NDC) on a day’s notice to undo the agreement between Uhuru and Mudavadi.

“Not even Uhuru was aware that there would be a meeting. He was called from his house to attend the meeting where we insisted that he had to be on the ballot,” Oloo told The Standard.

Sakaja attested to Oloo’s claims adding that they even resorted to employing intimidation to compel Uhuru to undo his decision.

“I remember calling Kenyatta and telling him he had to attend the NDC at Multimedia University because the delegates would burn the institution,” Sakaja stated.

Sakaja and Oloo went ahead to rally TNA delegates and prominent and influential elites from Central Kenya to restore the Uhuru ticket.

After the Multimedia University NDC meeting, Kenyatta held a fiery press conference and in betrayal most foul of Mudavadi, he denounced the agreement vowing not to step down for anyone.

“These were tense moments. We were racing against time, because the deadline for nominations was only hours away. We had to make quick and daring decisions to ensure Uhuru was in the race,” Oloo said.

With Uhuru’s ticket confirmed, Oloo divulged that Jubilee launched an aggressive campaign for the presidency, adding that the secretariat was always wary of the threat posed by Odinga’s team.

Sakaja disclosed that plotting how to frustrate Uhuru’s plans to step down for Mudavadi in the 2013 race was “one of the most difficult tasks for the party’s top leadership.”

Nonetheless, Oloo maintains there was blatant electoral theft which inflated Jubilee’s numbers securing a victory for Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.
