Othaya MP Mary Wambui Quits Politics to Support President Uhuru Kenyatta's Reelection

Othaya Member of Parliament (MP) Mary Wambui on Wednesday declared that she had retired from politics and would not be running as an independent candidate.

Ms Wambui, who lost to former President Mwai Kibaki's close ally Gichuki Mugambi in the Jubilee nominations, stated she would instead focus on supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta's reelection bid.

Speaking after issuing Sh1.5 Million bursaries, Wambui expressed her desire to propel education and development in Othaya whether or not she was on the ballot.

She urged her constituents to turn up in large numbers on August 8 and vote for the Jubilee Party.

Other top leaders who lost in the nominations including Kiambu Governor William Kabogo and Nakuru County Governor Kinuthia Mbugua have vowed to run as independent candidates.

On Monday, the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced that over 1400 aspirants will run as independents candidates in the August poll.
