Parliamentary Committee Set to Investigate Religious Discrimination in Schools

The National Assembly through one of its committees has launched investigations into claims of students in public schools across the country being discriminated due to their religion.

The Education Committee, led by Muranga County Women Representative- Sabina Chege is set to investigate the claims.

Consequently, parents and students from all over the country and from any religious groups have been invited to send their complains to the committee.

The submissions can be made to Nominated MP Zuleikha Hassan through her assistant Ms.Asia Suleiman on 0713630910 or email honzuleikha2013@gmail.com.

The move by parliament comes after Mvita MP Abdulswamad Sharriff moved a petition to have the house investigate the matter.

Sharriff's petition was based on a recent incident where students from Bura Girls High school, claimed to have been suspended by the school for failing to attend church despite being non- Christians.

The incident sparked outrage from various fronts across the country.

The committee has been tasked with conducting investigations into the matter and present a report to parliament, which will then deliberate on the necessary course of action.
