Passenger Kills Conductor, Shoots 4 Others In Nairobi Matatu

A dramatic fight ensued Sunday morning at the Odeon Bus terminus in Nairobi, where a matatu conductor was shot dead and four others seriously injured.

It is reported that three men boarded a Star Bus Company matatu and took the rear seat and shortly after, two of them began roughing up their colleague.

On seeing the unfolding spectacle, the bus driver, Kevin Macharia, ordered the conductor, Robert Kamadi, to kick out the three suspects.

Following the directive to get out of the vehicle, one of the men drew his gun and shot the tout on the chest and driver on the forehead.

The unknown assailant also turned on two passengers a Mr Kennedy Gathuma Chege and one John Njoroge Ngige, shooting them on the right and left legs respectively, the Nation reports.

The gunman also shot his colleague on the pelvis with whom they had initially engaged in a confrontation.

The five victims were rushed to the Kenyatta National Hospital where the matatu conductor died while undergoing treatment, while the matatu belonging to Star Bus Company was towed to the Central Police Station, as police commenced investigations into the incident.
